Administrative and Communications Core

The Administration and Communications Core coordinates and integrates services and functions across the three physical locations of the KIDDRC in Lawrence and Kansas City and provides scientific leadership and governance mechanisms to ensure that scientific cores are current and efficiently run.

The ACC will provide the following services to KIDDRC scientists and projects:

A key function of the Administration and Communications Core is to represent, facilitate, and promote IDD research at the University of Kansas. It provides well-regarded, proactive, visionary scientific and administrative leadership; raises awareness of IDD; recruits quality scientists to problems relevant and appropriate to IDD conditions; and and sustains the IDD research community as a visible and cohesive entity.

Administrative Services

Example services include cross-campus proposal development support, cross campus post award grants management, contract/agreement review and negotiation, maintaining integrated request management (ReqMan) for core usage tracking and billing.

Coordination and Support

The ACC offers facilities and operations support, service to other cores. It offers intra-KIDDRC meeting coordination, including executive committee meetings, external advisory committee meetings, and coordination of meetings with investigators and the center director and/or co-director.

Training and Education

Services include training and mentoring of junior scientists and students; the IDD Postdoctoral Program, mentoring junior faculty, coordinating the Gatlinburg Conference on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.

Communication and Outreach

The ACC maintains and develops the KIDDRC website; arranges, promotes, and sponsors scientific lectures and events to both scientists and the lay public; and coordinates dissemination and outreach activities to the IDD community on its own and through partnerships with the KU’s University Center for Excellence on Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD), and the KU’s Leadership and Education in Neurodevelopmental Disorders (LEND) program.
