The BMC maintains a close relationship with two affiliated resources that charge the BMC on a fee-for-service basis. Although not part of the BMC, the collaboration with the Physics Shop and the Instrument Design Lab make possible the advanced technological solutions we offer our investigators.
The BMC is pleased to have the Physics Shop of the University of Kansas as an affiliate. The Physics department has allowed the BMC access to the state-of-the art Physics Shop for the manufacturing and fabrication of any needed apparatus, manipuladum, or casing. The Physic Shop is operated and maintained by Allan Hase and Zack Kessler, who together have over 35 years experience in metal working and machine fabrication. Our access to the Physics Shop at KU means that the BMC can have all cumstom-made parts manufactured locally, substantially reducing the costs when compared to outsourced manufacturing.
The BMC is also fortunate to have access to the Instrument Design Laboratory at the University of Kansas. The lab is operated by Dr. Ken Ratzlaff and his accompanying team of engineers. The skill and precision maintained in the workmanship and design of equipment by this lab insures that various electrical components, for example circuit boards, microprocessor arrays, transduction devices, etc., will be of the highest quality. Again, such quality is available at a substantial cost reduction compared to outsourced electronic development.
